We went for our clinic appointment today and, as expected, Roxy’s blood counts were low. Her white cell counts are super low. No visitors, no going anywhere, and a mask on our way into the hospital are musts right now. Usually the white blood cell counts will come back up on their own (and with the help of a drug) in the next few days. We need her white blood cell counts to be better by next week so that we can get another dose of chemo.
Red blood cell counts were also a little low. I guess it’s important for red blood cell counts to be high during radiation (although I forgot to ask why), so she will have a blood transfusion tomorrow. She’s fine with it, and it shouldn’t be too bad. They just hang the bag of blood like they would any medicine and it goes through her mediport. It will take about 3 hours though, so we have some more boring hospital time.
I gave her a shot today for the first time. She has to have a drug called neupogen to boost her white blood cell count. It’s a shot (similar to an insulin shot). I can’t lie -I was super nervous, but it went well and the nurse said I did it right, so that’s good. It was nice to be able to give it the first time with a nurse there. Hopefully by this weekend, I will be more comfortable with it since I will have to give them to her here.
She’s still eating great and in good spirits. I know I say this every time, but she is really an inspiration. I am more and more amazed by her every day.
So, back to the hospital tomorrow for radiation and transfusion, then radiation again Friday, then we should have the weekend off. I’m hoping she stays healthy and doesn’t get any fevers. If so, we will have a nice, relaxing weekend at home.
Thanks again to everyone!
Stacey

I do enjoy the way you have framed this issue plus it does offer me personally a lot of fodder for thought. Nonetheless, from everything that I have observed, I simply hope when the opinions pile on that people keep on point and not start upon a tirade associated with the news du jour. Yet, thank you for this exceptional point and although I can not really concur with this in totality, I regard the standpoint.
