Well, it looks like we should be going home today or tomorrow. Thank goodness! I think we will feel a lot better once we are all under the same roof. Roxy is nervous about it, but I think she will feel better once we are actually there. We will still be going back and forth a lot for chemo and radiation, but at least the majority of our time will be spent at home.
I have a few guidelines for going home that I wanted to share with all of you, especially anyone who would like to visit. For the next year, Roxy will have a compromised immune system and we need to be very careful to keep her away from germs. If she gets sick, we have to come back to the hospital and get admitted for IV antibiotics. Even a simple cold can be dangerous for Roxy. So, I am asking for all of you (especially kids who are friends with Roxy) to follow these rules:
1. Do not come over if you have had a cold, coughing, vomiting, diarrhea, or a rash of any kind in the past 3 days.
2. Do not come over if you have been around anyone who is sick, even with something mild.
3. Do not come over if you have been around anyone with chickenpocks or shingles in the past 4 weeks.
4. Please let your kids know that I will ask them to sanitize their hands before coming into our house and frequently while playing with Roxy. I will also spray them with Lysol before they come in.
I hope you can all understand that these rules are just to keep Roxy safe. I want her to be able to maintain as “normal” a life as possible while also staying safe.
You may also want to warn any kids that come over that Roxy has a feeding tube. It is a yellow tube coming out of her nose. As of now she still has her hair, but eventually she won’t (we have not told her about this yet). I just don’t want any kids to come over and be scared or uncomfortable.
Thank you again to everyone for all the love and support! It means so much to all of us. I am so thankful for all of you!
Keep your fingers crossed that we go home today!
