Well, we are back in the hospital again. I noticed Roxy was sweating last night so I took her temperature and it was 101. Even though she felt fine, we had to bring her back in. Any time children going through chemo get a fever above 100.4, they have to head straight to the hospital. So, here we are and here we wait. Roxy still has a slight fever (it goes down with Tylenol, but keeps coming back). She still feels fine, but we are stuck here for at least a few days. Even if her fever goes away, she will have to stay until her white blood cell count comes back up. Right now all her counts are low. If her red blood cell count doesn’t improve, she’ll have to get another transfusion tomorrow.
So, basically we sit in the hospital and wait – wait to see if her fever comes back, wait to see if her counts come up, wait for the blood cultures to make sure she doesn’t have an infection in her blood. From what the doctors and nurses have told us, this is pretty common, so I guess we should get used to it. Roxy is dealing ok with it. Me – not so much. I feel like we just left and being away from Brie so much is really getting to me. I feel like I never see her and when I do, I’m so busy that I don’t even get to spend much time with her.
But, this isn’t about me – it’s about Roxy. So, the good news is that she feels well and she’s keeping busy and getting lots of fluids and antibiotics. With any luck, we’ll get to go home on Tuesday or Wednesday then probably come back Friday for more chemo.
Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and prayers.
